Domingo Zapata “Freedom” fashion show opens Los Angeles Fashion Week 10th Anniversary

Domingo Zapata, a Spanish American artist and designer born in Palma De Mallorca, Spain, opened up LA Fashion week with his 10th season anniversary “Freedom” on Monday March 12th at the Macarthur in Los Angeles.

Hundreds of people, celebrities (Billy Zane, Cj Franco, Darwin Shaw, Tonia and Sotiropoulau, Camila Banus and Hal Ozsan to name a few) and VIP guests came to support and witness the amazing collection made in collaboration with famous designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.

Domingo opened up the fashion show and grabbed the audience attention with Spanish Flamenco dancer Isaac De Los Reyes, from Spain who performed an unbelievably beautiful cultural dance to the rhythm of percussion.

Marija Shatilo, a Supermodel from Vilnius Lithuania started the walk wearing his first piece inspired by “Garden of Earthly Delights” by artist Bosch.

The collection revealed 20 pieces that were in collaboration with the famous designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, who designed exclusively for Zapata each of the garments that were later painted by him. They were turned into unique and colorful pieces of art that were worn by the models on the runway to portray a message of optimism and peace and to raise awareness for arm/gun control. Zapata created one of the dresses especially in tribute to Gabriel Cruz Ramirez, the sad and unfortunate case of the Spanish child who was news throughout the country for his disappearance. The dress had painted fish since Gabriel was affectionately known as “pescaito”.

“ I thought it was a wonderful moment, in a spectacular setting to celebrate a fusion between fashion, art and music with a social conscience for a prettier and better world. The freshness, detail and fun shapes that Agatha designs are great and have been the perfect canvas to develop my vision,” said Zapata.

Although it has been a busy start to the year to Domingo, in addition to the creation of “Freedom” with its hopeful and positive messages, Zapata is preparing an exhibition of paintings with singer Alejandro Sanz that will be held in New York next May, as well as a short film to be exhibited at the famous main screen of Times Square in the month of April.
