A weaver, fiber artist, and tarot card reader; Meghan Bogden Shimek, has introduced me to a new form of Art and it is super cool. I am very intrigued with the way in which Shimek’s art manifests into the physical form of majestic and textual wall hangings, furniture or 3-D installations. These beautiful fiber art moments made of, “traditional tapestry, Navajo weaving techniques, organic movements, raw fibers and objects”, are simply and organically charming.
Shimek’s work is said to be inspired by an extreme sense of loss, movement, healing and the acknowlwdgement of uncomfortable feelings and most certainly has a spiritual element to it. Her use of an array of warm and bold colors, humor and enamor the eye that catches its glimpse.
A student as well as a wise teacher for over 2 years across the US, Shimek has studied several weaving techniques, including tapestry weaving with Tricia Goldberg, Navajo weaving, Rigid Heddle, and Floor Loom weaving. The product equates to wall innovations with infinite and dynamic depth taking on an aesthetic of heavenly coiled cotton.
Take a look at Shimek’s work and let us know what emotions her work evokes within you. SEE MINE BELOW:
