Earthy. Whimsical. Abstract. And expressionistic, los angeles groomed and based contemporary mixed media artist, Sona Mirzaei, has a larger than life love affair with the juxtaposition that she is able to discover through her artistic capabilities, creating a kaleidescope artistic world of inspiring texture, color and shape. According to Mirzaei, “one of the benefits of being an abstract expressionist mixed media artist is that we have the ability and freedom to use opposing elements such as colors, form, and a variety of mediums which creates a great contrast within the body of work“. Consequently, the diversity of the artistic expression housed in Mirzaei’s movement, is one that is bold, limitless, culturally impactful and left up to individual imagination to define.
Self-taught and an artistic visionary, the beauty of the art this wonder woman creates is very much centered around its ability to spark an intrinsic multidimensional emotion within the spirit of the person viewing its creation. And it is quite an experience as Mirzaei specifically uses her intuition and free spirit natured senses to transfer an authentic and spontaneous energy to her art creations, allowing for a myriad of interpretations of the manifestation produced by each unique soul that is viewing it.
Mirzaei’s work is inspired by Matisse, Picasso, Rothko, Koons, Sherman, Pollack, Dali, Basquiat, Richter, Rubens, Klee, Louise Bourgeois, Niki de Saint Phalle, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Monet, Johns, Rauschenberg, Frida Kahlo, and Beatrice Milhazes. She also has exhibited her works all around the world in cool international cities such as: London, Singapore, Copenhagen, Chicago, Las Vegas, Toronto, Paris, Miami, Hong Kong, New York City, Dubai, San Francisco and of course Southern California.
There is no doubt that art is the divinely selected vehicle of communication and expression for Mirzaei. It is the tool that helps her capture the jewels and meaning in this life for her and others. And by the looks of what her heart produces, it is one heart of a tool.
Whether expressing what her soul interprets by using mediums such as sand, dried flora and fauna, coffee beans, resin, soil, oil, metal leafing, spray paint, acrylics, and the list goes on and on, one thing that is for sure is; there is a connectedness and unity that all of Mirzaei’s pieces actively voice.
