“Keep On”, the first single off of Kehlani‘s latest album, SWEET SEXY SAVAGE, is my favorite song currently. Why? Because it is all about self-love and love unconditional. Produced by August Rigi and Jahaan Sweet, “Keep On” encompasses Kehlani demonstrating  that she is in love with herself in an unmitigated fashion whether others understand the phenomenon or not on the harmonic track as she courageously hints at her blemishes and failures in life with a self-accepting and evolutionary tone. Instead of running from all of the rumors circling around her attempted suicide last year, which was supposedly a result of the  romantic unravel between her and basketball player, Irie Kirving, she genuinely effortlessly addresses the episode head on.

How revolutionary and magical this young eagle is because truth be told, she owes no one an explanation as we all have our issues in this crazy life so no one has the right to judge anyone. But yet, the songstress still provides such a profound introspective perspective on the woman she was and the woman she is today, serving as an example for other human beings out there struggling with some sort of failure or transgression.

KEHLANI is a Phoenix and I love everything about her; FLAWS and ALL, which should not be too surprising as isn’t that what unconditional love is: Love that truly has no limits and conditions and that is truly boundless?

She proves once again that it is not what happens to us that matters most. It is how we respond to what happens to us that truly defines our character. And in this world, we all need people that will “Keep On” loving us through our shortcomings and mistakes. This is hard to find, especially in a day and age where many are self-centered and controlled by their ego and think that everything that happens in their life is a consequence of themselves. The truth is there will be disappointments in your life that truly have nothing to do with you, but more so how people see you. And 9 times out of 10 their view is rather limited.

So listen to the track and remember that you are not your mistakes and that you are most certainly ENOUGH: FLAWS and ALL. And that you need no approval from anyone in this earthly realm. If people do not accept you for who you are and meet you where you are, you should “Keep On Keepin On” just like Kehlani.
