The soulful and horn heavy jazz-infused track with a James Brownesque flare, “Get Up”, by Nick Grant featuring Watch The Duck; collects all of our attention for this week’s heART of cool (HoC) Music Monday.
The track, produced by HoC family member, Karriem Riggins, undoubtedly inspires a sort of sense of being transported back to a particular place in time when all music made you want to do is boogie woogie until the police came to shut the joint down.
Grant, a rising star who grew up in Walterboro, South Carolina; but reppin Atlanta strong, brings some wicked flows that is reminiscent of A Tribe Called Quest mixed with some Slum Village topped off with a little bit of De La Soul ?. Yes, that’s right. I said it!
It is clear that Grant went to Hip Hop University and actually did his homework. So listen to “Get Up”, released on Culture Republic/Epic Records and be sure to let us know if it makes you want to shake a leg or two.
